What a lovely touch it was this week when having cooked a delicious chicken dinner for both of us (including Brussel sprouts and stuffing, my favourites), my lovely man Howard lit the candles, and made the dinner table look fabulous for our meal… just before we watched the movie, ‘Ghost’! Very nice, a continuation of our super Valentine’s Day celebrations – and the day itself was lovely as well, see below.
Had a few days down Sussex this week, in fact, it was a really nice break – including a very enjoyable day in Lewes.

I do love a good meander – A meander through charity shops, around antique shops, and in coffee shops, you get the theme emerging here? Well, we had a couple of days like that but the best one was in Lewes, where at one point I picked up an old motorbike registration plate in an antique shop. This is not an antique, it’s quite recent, I said. But then I worked out that as the letter N is at the end, it was actually from 1973. Hence 53 years old, so very definitely not recent! Every so often it makes me remember how old I am, ha ha! Or how old we are, as H is a week younger than me :-). (For those a little behind the curve, since November the new man in my life has been someone I went to middle school with and dated briefly aged 14. Lots of past, a super present, and lots of future, I hope! And I do love dinner in the local pub, ‘The Green Man’, very delicious it was too!

One of the best things we did this week was the day when we went and booked a holiday, see below. And went to see his son’s little family again. Plus I had a very welcome second massage session with the skilled therapist Maria in Haywards Heath. A lovely week, including lots of walks and great food. It was my long week off from work, and next week is my long week on, so I will be making up for it!
SNIPPETS

Narnia Half Term Trail
Had my son’s two kids for a day during their half term, too – we went on the Narnia trail amongst other things, in Banstead Wood, following the sculptures of characters from the books/films. It’s highly recommended if you want something to do with your youngsters, especially if they know the story already. Blake and Kaleb loved Lucy and the lamppost the best! We had a nice little lunch in the Coulsdon South café, and watched some telly before I took them both home, saw my lovely son Brad, then went off to work! I do love seeing them and they are very well behaved kids, they only argued a little bit! (See also the Vlog below).

Marvellous Mum
Someone said to me this week you look like your mum. I hope I’m as good at her age! Who would believe she’s 82, yes this picture was from this week! Admittedly we all look better with make-up on, but I think she’s amazing!

Lovely Valentine’s Day
Hope you had a good one too. We went out for a lovely meal at the Beacon restaurant near Tunbridge Wells, and H, having paid for a smashing massage for me with a lovely local lady, really liked the jacket I got him and some other trinkets and chocs etc. It was just what I had hoped for, and a really nice change to how I normally spend Valentine’s Day. Here’s to another one next year! We’ve just booked our May cruise to the Greek Islands with Marella Discovery, too, which we did at Hays travel agent in the Orchard in Haywards Heath this week, so it should be another lovely thing to look forward to. It’s all going rather well!
Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is a clever picture of Howard and his new baby granddaughter! Amongst other things!
Watch – well, we saw ‘Ghost’ the movie, and have started watching ‘Shrinking!’ I have to say I absolutely love Harrison Ford’s psychotherapist counsellor character, and Jason Segel is really funny. It’s a great script and we’re enjoying it very much. Highly recommended! Plus it’s the year that Life on Mars is celebrating its 20th anniversary – I don’t mean the song, I mean the brilliant time-travel TV series, where the cop goes back from 2006 to the mid 70s. Just love all the period detail and it makes me realise how far we’ve come! And how much we miss some of the things from back then. It’s lovely remembering and knowing I was there, first time round! Mind you it did put a different light on the visits to the antique shops – as some of them had 70s “Antiques“, and we both agreed that if you were there first time round, you wouldn’t buy it now!
Blooper – a little bit of Ross from Friends for those of us who have suffered and maybe still suffering from tumbleweed brain, menopause or no menopause! (And don’t forget there’s a menopause your way show the first Monday of every month from now on, again. I hope I get to do some of them!) See it here.
Vlog – a little clip from the Narnia Trail in Banstead Woods! See it here.
Book of the Week – Taste of Blood – Lynda La Plante. What can I say, book 9 in the Jane Tennison series does not disappoint. It develops a relationship with her new partner, and her journey through the police force. The story uncovers a trove of hidden dark secrets, including a tragic death and a secret love affair. I found out there’s only a couple more, before it joins up with Prime Suspect, the series that got made into the TV show. It will be very interesting to see how it dove-tails together! I’m looking forward to it.
