Hot Devon days and sneaky peeks!

It was the turn of the memoirs workshop this week and I had a full house. I can’t say it was easy with 10 people but I got through it and everyone seemed to love the food!

So hard in the heat isn’t it? Even harder when you’re trying to do baking and cooking but thank God for my old house with its stone floors, no matter how hot it is outside the ancient tiled floors that are connected directly to bedrock I believe, stay cold. Had a nice stay at the end for an extra day as well. (Had politics/Association meetings, but of course these are winding down so that by next summer I won’t be holding a role in Devon at least! That’s the plan anyway.)

Although I’m having second thoughts about selling the place having spent time there recently and really really relaxed and enjoyed it! Look at the Vlog this week for more, first time doing #Thursdaybantz from the back garden!

SNIPPETS

Afternoon tea anyone?

Had the most enjoyable 2 hours with my friend Sheena in the café in Hatherleigh, and saw Caitlynne as well and we put the world to rights! It was one of the really hot days but I felt cool and relaxed with my lovely fan (more news about that on my newsletter because it’s not from QVC!) and had a wonderful smoothie and an ice cream with no dairy in it! (Mind you I did have a little bit of custard this week which I could not resist! And my belly was not happy with me and blew up like a balloon.. der!

Pretty courtyard

Thank you to Ryan my neighbour who has been watering my courtyard flowers including these lovely geraniums, isn’t this a welcome sight? It’s my new homepage picture for my retreats for you website. Had a couple of people had to postpone, for next months retreat – if you’ve ever wanted to write a memoir, start with personal essays, a really easy way to chunk it down; come along on the 5th of August for four nights! A fabulous tutor and great food… or so I am told! Just email me via the website – retreatsforyou.co.uk

Substack Sayings

Not only do I love looking at cats on Instagram and the pelvic floor daily exercise woman on Facebook, but I’ve now discovered a Substack and some brilliant posts. I loved this one. Very pertinent given the stage I’m at with my book! I’ve posted it on my wall. Get it done Deborah! I did do some more writing on my own book this week which is a bit of a miracle given how busy I was, but it’s progressing nicely – at last!

Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is a montage of songs that defined my earlier years. Thank you Karen and Richard. And that fan that I can’t live without in the hot weather…

Watch – hoping to see the Formula One movie with Brad Pitt, at the cinema… And still hoping to catch up with The Salt Path at some stage! Had some other really interesting recommendations from other people about stuff to watch, this week as well. One day maybe I’ll get a chance to sit down and watch something!

Funny

This made oi lafffff!! (See it here). #heights

So did this!

Vlog – a lovely little trek around the garden at my place in Devon on this week’s  #Thursdaybantz!  (See it here).

(Apologies for the dodgy sound at the start!)

Book of the Week – The Rivers of London series, Book 10 by Ben Aaronovitch

Narrated by my top narrator ever, Kobna Holdbrook Smith.

Detective Sergeant Peter Grant is back, this time with his sidekick Abigail in tow, and his family, on a fact-finding mission to investigate the supernatural goings on in Scotland. But the whole family get a look in in this immaculately narrated tale, that showcases the genius dialogue and accents from Kobna – he puts everyone else in the shade – and the funny script from Ben. A delight to listen to!
