Gallivanting to Gothenburg – at last!

Finally made the trip, after Glenn moving there 2 1/2 years ago (I’m the only sibling to have left it this long, bad sister!) As I mentioned last week we arrived Thursday lunchtime, after a very early flight, and everything was good. Mum came with me and we stayed in a nice airbnb And had a fabulous couple of days, Glenn made some lovely meals and we had some good trips out.

On one day we went to a music festival which was lots of fun. It’s terribly salty a lot of the time though – I had to take some olives back out of my mouth because they were just too salty. They even have the most horrendous salty licorice and chocolate balls! Yuck! But we were very lucky with the weather and it was smashing to catch up with everyone. Even though Mum was particularly mock/offended by the title of one café!

I particularly enjoyed a boat ride out to an island, it was a full afternoon journey, and the sun shone fiercely enough so I had to cover up with the hat et cetera, (I’ve got a DNA skin problem) but I do love being on the water, I loved exploring the island, and a good time was had by all!

Also see the Vlog below! Sorry, Swedish seals!

We played games, had chats, went on little walks and Ziggy the dog was absolutely delighted to see us! Mum and I stayed in a little apartment which was really convenient. And it was only two hours on the plane so hopefully I’ll do it again before Christmas. So nice to see my nieces, both of them, which was a real treat.

And spend time with my brother and his lovely wife Boki and see their new apartment. Mum and I walked further than we walked in a long time and came back knackered! LOL. It was all very worthwhile tho, and I’m glad I went.

SNIPPETS

Happy birthday lollipop!

My lovely little daughter is 36 on Saturday the sixth, (and happy birthday to brother for the day after). I’ll be seeing her later in the month, but meanwhile she sent me a picture of the first written words of her little boy Jasper, who is not four until February, using some of the letters he knows. He wrote bit and pop! Not long till he writes Nan Nan!

Take our HATS off, Vicar of Dibley in Devon

This week, the Holsworthy amateur theatre society production of Dawn French‘s TV classic brought the house down. I went along with my lovely friends Barbara, Sheila and Penny, and had a brilliant time! There was also a lady wearing exactly the same jacket as me, yes 177 300, the denim and co-stretch comfy jacket, but in orange! It was lovely to see the ladies, we went to the theatre instead of having an afternoon tea at mine for a change. Hoping to see them again at the end of September :-). Don’t forget to look up the newsletter that would’ve arrived in your inbox this weekend if you subscribe, for even more trips out and catching up with people!

Watch – Well, I started watching The Thursday Murder Club – the film of the famous book by Richard Osman –  out now on Netflix, in Sweden, and I’m a bit disappointed at how slow it is and how pedestrian parts of the script are to be honest, considering how amazing all of those people are in the cast! It’s still enjoyable, for me anyway. Mum thought it was a bit boring. So I think I will begin it again from the beginning (I missed some because we were watching it with my brother in Sweden initially) and give it a good chance. It’s kind of like a Sunday afternoon rainy day film I think. Let’s hope it gets better.

So meanwhile, watch this which I think is very moving. I wish I was there! One of those apocryphal moments you hear about but rarely get to witness! Genuinely brought tears to my eyes!

Blooper – I was literally laughing out loud when I watched Jackie’s latest mishap! She’s hilarious! (See it here).

Vlog – whoops, sorry seals! (See it here).

Book of the Week – Well naturally it’s the latest Robert Galbraith! Cormoran Strike and Robin, private detectives.

A dismembered corpse is discovered in the vault of a silver shop. The police initially believe it to be that of a convicted armed robber – but not everyone agrees with that theory. One of them is Decima Mullins, who calls on Strike for help as she’s certain the body in the silver vault was that of her boyfriend – who suddenly and mysteriously disappeared.

I’ve got a long journey coming up and I will be tucking into that, no problem!

Have been very much enjoying Julie Mae Cohen’s ‘Body Count’ too, as we go deeper into the psychology of “bad men” serial killer, Saffy.

But also just to point out another one of my regular authors, Merryn Allingham, has book 12, yes 12, in the Flora Steele mysteries, just released –

Murder by Firelight. Sussex, November 1959. There’s a chill in the air at the Lewes bonfire celebration. Carnival floats fill the narrow streets, fireworks crackle overhead, and Flora and Jack feel the heat of the burning torches lining the streets. But when Trevor French, chief of the Grove Bonfire Society, tumbles from his parade float, they know something is afoot. Trevor didn’t just fall – and amidst the crowds, his killer slips away through the smoke-filled night.

I have enjoyed this series very much, can’t believe it’s book 12! Start at book one, obvs, they’re very good, and I particularly love the 1950s period detail. Life was so much simpler then!
