This week I spent most of my spare time at home, out on walks and trying to sort out my place, in readiness for when I’m off having my operation. And catching up on sleep. And getting everything ready for a quick trip to Cyprus next week for my brother’s 60th, after a weekend babysitting the grandchildren!
Can’t believe the rubbish that was in my suitcase from last time though. When I’m a grown-up I’ll aim to travel light!

Had some very long, lovely leafy, autumnal trips to the woods, getting used to doing a bit more movement in the run-up to my operation on the 11th of October.
Vlog – here is a bit of said ‘forest bathing’!
I’ll have to carry on doing a really good walk every day next week when I’m in Greece for my brother’s 60th.
Mum had lots of fun there already this week. You may have seen there’s a video of her on my socials and on this week’s newsletter as well as a little exclusive (see below). When I’m away next week my niece comes here to look after everything and water the plants – (I must admit that’s been a right old chore having to do mum’s as well because her ‘kew gardens’ balcony is still so covered in blooms.) But I did look after the cat for my niece Becky in return! And she bought me some roses which were so perfect, they looked fake! Beautiful colours. My Thomson and Morgan rose, called Peace something, yellow with pink edges, is also back in bloom. Lovely!

I also got lots of admin done this week when I was off, including finishing the permit scheme research for our flats where I’m a director, gathering car registrations. Lucky me. Now I’ve just got to sell tickets for two events in November in Devon, and one in London in January, do some accounts and finish my fifth novel! LOL no rest for the wicked. At least I’ll have a lot of rest when I’m off for nearly a month after my op – whether I like it or not!
SNIPPETS

FireGuy Steve gets a Tour
My mate Steve, a top level fire safety consultant, came to meet me so I could treat him to supper in return for doing me a favour at my flat this week, and I showed him around QVC. He seemed pleased! He’s very geeky, a bit like me, so he quite enjoys doing stuff like that as a favour, and I was very grateful for his help in looking at a fire door compliance issue for me. Then we had a delicious Sunday dinner, and I mean delicious, at a nearby pub called the Coach and Horses just over Kew Bridge where QVC guests sometimes stay. It was lovely to have a catch up, and I’m lucky to have a mate like Steve.

Roman Face Cream – Analysed!
In 2003 or something like that, an intact, well preserved, tin of cream was found in a protected place when they excavated Roman Temple in London, and it hit the news that it was the oldest discovery of its type in London. Well since then they managed to analyse it, so that when this cropped up this week on Facebook I thought I would look it up.
Well, in 2024 the archaeologist had this report (here).
How fascinating is that! And this is what they analysed –

How far we have come, I’m glad we have marine cream and age benefit nowadays! I do love a bit of ancient history though!

Kaleb n dog
When I was having my most recent “Nan Nan Friday“ with my oldest grandson, he was on the park gym when a little dog decided to sit and watch him for a little while, it was very sweet! It’s been lovely looking after him and spending some proper time with him, even tho’ as usual he wore me out and then when we went home he wanted to play even more, but happily he was content with his cars rather than me! Another one this Friday 🙂
Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is more from my afternoon with my grandson! And a little scooter fail. LOL
Watch – In keeping with the whole ancient history thing I mentioned earlier, I saw this and thought how wonderful it was – a walk THROUGH Stonehenge. One of my most treasured memories was going twice with Lindum Heritage trips with Julian Crabtree the archaeologist in charge of Stonehenge, AROUND 15 YEARS AGO, and we actually went inside it and around it. Last time it happened before that, was when I was on a school trip at middle school in the 70s and the fences had not yet been put up! In many ways, those were the days. See it here.
Funny – my brother-in-law Dave, adores Bruce Springsteen, so this really made me laugh this week! This guy does some very funny send ups so do follow him. See it here.
Book of the Week – Whilst I wade my way through ‘Wrongful Death,’ the next Anna Jarvis book from Lynda La Plante, I thought I’d mentioned this one from lovely Rowan Coleman – one of my regular authors whom I love to read, and a great writing tutor. ‘The Good Boy’ is a fun romance, the girl doesn’t believe her Nan is magic – but where has this handsome man suddenly come from, and where has her beloved dog gone! 🙂 you can guess the rest 🙂

I’m looking forward to reading it – maybe in Greece next week!
Ps the Anna Jarvis book is excellent, btw, she goes off to train at Quantico and the cases she solves in this novel, are more complicated than ever! Very rewarding to read and compelling to go back to. Glad I don’t have a stack of paperbacks I need to take with me on hols tho – they are all on my audible app!

Enjoy your time in Cyprus, Debs, and good luck with your upcoming surgery. I had a hysterectomy 30 years ago. Recovery does take a while but it changed my life so much for the better.
Love the blog every Saturday, keeps me in touch as I don’t do much social media. xxx

Debs, Have a great time in Cypress celebrating with your family, nice to get some winter sun. Good luck with the Operation, l had the same operation 38 years ago, it was the best thing I ever had done (operation wise that is). I was only 32 and it was not expected, l came round after the op and cried for 3 days. Once I got over the shock l never looked back. So good luck to you. Xxx
Cheers Wendy. Mum had hers at 38 and was pragmatic as ever so hope I’m the same . Mind you, at 63 it’s a bit different anyway isn’t it! X
