Dad would’ve been 85, here’s what we did to commemorate it! And sneaky peeks…

Yes, it’s that time of year again, when my siblings and I went out for our annual supper, marking dad‘s birthday and this year he would’ve been 85! We had a lovely time at a steakhouse in Reigate, only little Glenn didn’t join us, little rat, not making time to come over from Sweden! After the meal we had some nostalgia, doing a little group-watch of some cine movie clips from back then, on my iPad, and we all went away full of sibling and mummy love.

It’s a super tradition and I’m really pleased we keep it up. We all miss him, and he’s now been gone for more years than he was alive, in my life anyway. But it was lovely to think about him for a full evening! People say my son Brad is very much like him and I agree but so is my brother Glenn!

And all three are wonderful human beings 🙂 so glad I had my dad in my life even if it was only for 30 years at least mum had her soulmate in this life! I am pleased for her in that regard even though he went too soon. Maybe I’ll have more luck in the next life LOL

MYW Meet Up

I told my cheesy joke, now I’m post-menopause: “I used to write steamy novels, now I just read books about people killing each other“ to a lovely group of ladies I met this week! How’s this for a selfie/photo bomb extravaganza! A few of dozen wonderful women, at QVC to listen to a menopause expert and share their experiences, you may see some of the girl’s videos on screen on our social media at sometime. If you are interested in getting involved don’t forget to write and say why, to your-stories@qvc.com and maybe it will be you one day!

Backstage Buddies

It was a busy day because I caught up with some colleagues. Behind-the-scenes in the presenter lounge, meanwhile, all four presenters in one place, including my lovely Craigie who I had not seen for ages, Katy Pullinger looking Glam, and lovely Victoria about to get ready for her shift. I also saw Dale, Eilidh and Jackie! And, in person for a change, my lovely manager Dan Newman, who was the one behind the camera! I do love the cameraderie with my lovely colleagues.

MDD News!

Had a wonderful catch-up trip to medical detection dogs HQ this week in Milton Keynes, for which I’m an ambassador, Patrick Hoy and I caught up with founder Dr Clare Guest, and a new little doggy called pearl! (The exclusive on week’s newsletter for subscribers only, is a video of me playing with her! Nb If you don’t subscribe already hit the newsletter button at the bottom of this page and you’ll get it in your inbox every Friday and it also tells you that the latest blog is out).

Vlog – and here is a taster of when Patrick and I arrived. (See it here).

More about the afternoon tea date soon, which will be taking place at their HQ in Milton Keynes, in the next few months, keep your eyes peeled for the link to buy one of only 30 places if you have the resources to help raise some important funds for this amazing #DogsHelpingHumans charity! More news soon.

Watch – had a little film fest last weekend! For the first time in ages I went to the movies and saw two fabulous films. Firstly, ‘This Ends With Us’ with actress Blake lively, a really incredible production with some outstanding performances, concerning a complicated triangle interwoven with a dark underside when a woman whose dad used to beat up her mum, faces and tough decisions in her own love life. 8 1/2 out of 10.

Then I stayed on to immediately watch the latest Spielberg film called, ‘Twisters’ – which I initially thought was a little bit pedestrian, but it soon developed into something far more gutsy and substantial. I really liked what they did with a journey of the characters as they faced their fears and tried to tame the tornadoes whilst doing some serious soul searching. 7.75 out of 10.

Blooper – they have been popping up regularly on my timeline so I thought I’d share one with you, gosh we miss Matthew Perry and friends! (See it here).

Book of the Week – ‘Secrets at Bletchley Park’ by Margaret Dickinson.

I’m really enjoying this new novel, which I thought would be mainly set in the code breaking environment during World War II, but it features an enjoyable lead up to it, exploring the background of the two main characters and what made them who they are. Highly recommended so far!

  1. So glad you were able to celebrate your dad on his birthday with family, Debbie. That’s so important. My lovley mum’s birthday was the day before my dad’s – sister, brother and I do try to get together for a weekend away at that time as we always used to with them. Lovely traditions to keep up.
Looking forward to the Cook’s Essential turntables as I’m moving house and need to get storage storted.
Love your blog, always starts my weekend off well. xx
