Had a lovely time this week seeing friends in the Isle of Man with my gorgeous guy Howard. We did some sight-seeing, from beaches to the highest point, travelling on the horse-drawn tram & electric railway, and visiting the biggest working water wheel in the world., and so so much much more more.

John and Sharon, our hosts, were wonderful and I can see how this retro island attracts so many with its bygone feeling of yesteryear.

The weather held up, mostly, although it was quite cold on some of the days just after the heatwave in the UK which we missed out!) I do hope we go back again regularly. Next week we are off to Somerset on another mini break adventure!

Isle of Man memorial
‘Met’ Norman wisdom and the Bee Gees this week in the Isle of Man too! Famous residents with memorials – funny posing alongside!

Super Supper Hosts
And our lovely hosts this week, John and Sharon treated us to a supper at Frank Matcham’s on the sea front in Douglas, one night. Lovely people and a lovely place.

Early Angst
Back at work, just before we went away, I did a fill-in shift as an emergency when poor Victoria was ill – after a late shift – and had a breakfast at 7:30 at QVC – after I had finished at 1 o’clock! Was a bit floaty all day but managed to do the 9 am shift on Monday well, and then went to Howard’s for a nice sleep before we caught the early flight to the Isle of Man on the Tuesday! Made me remember why I don’t do earlies, though!

Catching up with school pals!
Whilst I have known Howard since we were nine, my lovely friend Denise has known him since they were five! They went to Hatfeild primary School together ((it is spelt that way Phil)) in lower Morden and they both went to Morden Farm middle school with me after that! Anyway we met up with her and her husband Paul, had a very long walk and did loads of steps. Had a nice afternoon tea break, then walked all the way back again to the place where they are housesitting not far from Howard in Sussex! Always nice to see them and they spent ages reminiscing!
Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is a recent funny on QVC with Annette from ABC!
Watch – I know it seems a little dry, but I really enjoyed flicking through this documentary about the Isle of Man and the history of its tourism. Remember the days when we used to go to seaside towns and it was absolutely rampacked and everything was really busy? That was in the 70s. Imagine what it was like in the earlier decades of the 1900s! Some wonderful archive footage and worth a watch. (I also watched a documentary about the Summerlands fire in 1973, scary. And some footage of the waves breaking over the Isle of Man Douglas seawall. They started building a new one now, good job!) See it here.
Also considering what’s happened in space this week, watch this fascinating fact from the Artemis! See it here.
Blooper/Funny – This really made me laugh this week, watch the dogs’ faces. There’s nothing funnier than a confused dog! See it here.
And this one, always makes me laugh, Morecambe and Wise, there are no replacements! Is the sort of oneliner my other half comes out with. He listens to Tony Blackburn on the radio on a Saturday morning too much, lol! See it here.
Vlog – Two quick ones for you this week –
The first one which I posted and said guess where I am! The answer is at the tallest point in the island, Snae Fell – we got there via the railway! See it here.
Second one – one of the first sites I saw when I got there, real seals! See it here.
Book of the Week – My host in IOM, Sharon, loves JD Kirk and recommended the DCI Logan series. There are 20! A Litter of Bones, bk 1, is now in my audiobook. This is what it’s about:
Ten years ago, DCI Jack Logan stopped the serial child-killer dubbed ‘Mister Whisper,’ earning himself a commendation, a drinking problem, and a broken marriage in the process.
Now, he spends his days working in Glasgow’s Major Investigations Team, and his nights reliving the horrors of what he saw.
And what he did.
Looking forward to reading it
