Well, week two and I definitely started going stir crazy. Had a lovely visit from my fabulous son Brad who bought over little grandson Kaleb. He was impressed as ever and wanted me to do some face painting! He wanted this Spider-Man thing, so I did my best to do my version on his little face which is so much like his dad‘s face when he was the same age!

It was lovely to see my boy and his boy, although only seven days post operation, I needed a lie down when they’d gone!
Had some other visitors during the week, and of course lots of checks from friends and family on the phone and FaceTime et cetera. Had a lovely Reiki/reflexology session at the Surrey osteopath spa in Westcroft leisure Centre in Carshalton – Denise has really made a difference. I felt quite comfortable and relaxed and definitely a bit more imbalance afterwards, slept well, and the next day felt like another three or four days had gone by, there was such a difference. It might be a coincidence but that’s how I felt.

Then later in the week I was back, and Rob one of the osteopaths who is fantastic, gave me a little treatment; obviously I couldn’t lay flat on my tummy, but he did what he could and helped around my shoulders and lower back and weirdly, my thumb (or perhaps not so weirdly, given how much time I’ve spent online! Must remember to get that golf ball out and do the exercises on my hands!)
Post Op Check and Hysterectomy Blog

Well, the two week checkup went well, a little bit of pink around one of the wounds, so a few days antibiotics should sort that out, and the gynaecologist surgeon Miss Christina Ding (via the Spire group) at Saint Anthony’s in Cheam, was very pleased with me. I would highly recommend her if you get the chance and the option.
So as promised, I spent a long time writing up my experience, including the nitty-gritty and some pretty gritty pictures. And next week I will be giving you the link to my hysterectomy blog when I have finished writing about all of this, with some blow by blow accounts of what’s happened! Yes, basically, apart from not being able to bath for another week or so, or do my yoga stretches, I can now drive and do lots of walks and gradually ramp up things again (but I don’t think I’ll ever ramp them up to the level that they were previously, let’s see.) Thank you everybody for your kind messages and continue to look out for my updates on social media in between now and when I go back on November 8 to QVC!
My newsletter people will of course get the hysterectomy blog link first, and I’ve already had some good feedback via my Events WhatsApp group. Also, my Debbie Flint banter Facebook group will be getting the link to the hysterectomy blog but please be prepared because it features some pretty graphic photographs including what was removed! Not for the squeamish!

Feet Up!
So funny, one of those knee-jerk reactions, literally, when I was waiting for my appointment for the postop checkup this week, and I was sitting on the sofa around the corner and suddenly the lady came round vacuuming the floor. And yours truly without even thinking about it, put my feet up! So funny!

That time of year
Well, it’s nearly November so I make no excuses – Christmas is starting to rear its head! The question is which of these types of book should I go for. I feel like a nice Christmassy novel, light-hearted and easy to read. Or should it be this thriller! Must also just direct you towards this – very funny, and very timely! (See it here).
Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content, apart from what I’ve already mentioned, is the follow-up to the Vlog below, once I’ve made the brownies and the video of what Mum did with them! Silly woman! And the link to my hysterectomy blog, with all the information you may have been waiting to see!
Watch – An extended version of this for the second week, for obvious reasons – all of the wonderful telly I’ve been watching! Here we go:
Carry On – No, nothing to do with Sid James and Hattie Jacques, it’s a terrorist-based thriller set in an airport in America, with something in a suitcase that Taron Egerton needs to get rid of! I always love his films and he never lets me down. Edge of your seat stuff and very cleverly done. I loved the non-obvious parts of the plot! It’s a film lasting for a couple of hours, which made a nice change from endless series!
Wayward – 6 parts, Netflix. Something’s not quite right at a teenage correctional facility in a small American town. This series, written, directed, produced, and acted in by Mae Martin, is both unusual and intriguing. I started watching for Toni Collette, who’s excellent as the eerie headmistress of a cult-like community. Mae, who is non-binary in real life, plays a male police officer—a role that took me a moment to adjust to, but subtitles helped. The story isn’t about gender identity, though; it’s about the strange situation a young couple faces after moving into this unsettling place. The show is well made, the acting strong across the board, and Mae Martin deserves full credit for a compelling and distinctive series.
The Newsreader – iplayer – finished this series, and loved it as I knew I would, having watched a couple of seasons previously. Some of the performances are so powerful, and Sam Reid in the lead role as Dale Jennings one of the two 1980s newsreaders in question, is outstanding as he battles his demons. I loved the Helen Norville character as well. I really loved the situation in the newsroom and the way they interweave real news stories from the 80s including Tiananmen Square and the Berlin Wall. Very very very entertaining and compelling.
The Forsytes – Long awaited remake of ‘the Forsyte saga’ on 5, and really well done it is. I’ll definitely keep watching this series as it comes out weekly. How old school! Most of you will probably have watched the TV series years ago, or the remake, and now it’s been done again. Brilliantly.
The Lincoln Lawyer – Enjoying this very much. He’s not Matthew McConaughey, (some people would say thank goodness) and the actor plays the lead role very differently, with a slight Spanish or Mexican accent. I like the strong supporting characters, all in all, it’s pretty good, and quite done well. I did enjoy the books so I really hope this turns out to be as compelling. Easy to watch.
Others I watched –
- Still trying to watch ‘Blue Lights’, people tell me I’ve got to get to the end of episode two, then it really picks up, so I will go back to it. Bit dismal initially, TBH.
- Upload – kicked back in by re-watching the last one I’d seen; sci-fi at it’s best with comedy galore and some excellent characters, just watch it.
- The Diplomat. Getting more into this. I do love a bit of Rufus Sewell for sure. And it’s ticking along well enough to make me keep going back to it.
- Mindhunter – set in the early 70s about psychological profiling – I will dip back into this one.
- Pulse – Netflix – a bit like ER and Grey’s Anatomy and very fast paced. Lots about relationships from the outset. I like it, I’ll watch again :-). When I say I’ll go back to it, it’s because I’ve started watching the first part of lots of different series so they come up in my “continue watching“ and my menopause brain doesn’t forget what I was watching last night! There’s so much choice nowadays! It’s also a very good test to see whether something grabs you straight away!
Blooper – even when Jackie is away… 🙂 (See it here).
Funny – Oh Riona what are you like? Me, that’s what she’s like! LOL. Specially after two weeks of inactivity and with a jelly belly ha ha! (See it here).
And had to mention this one, given the kind of ‘later time of life’ theme I’ve been writing about lately in my blogs. Quite: “the fun freedom and ‘what’ era?! (See it here).
Vlog – a little boo boo with the brownies! (See it here).
Book of the Week – Haven’t listened to audio much I must admit, when I haven’t been online, I’ve been watching telly because I’m allowed to sit still. Lol. But there’s a new John Grisham just released this week – The Widow.
SHE NEEDS A LAWYER. HE NEEDS A PAYDAY.
Lawyer Simon Latch is struggling with debt, gambling issues and an impending divorce. But when Eleanor Barnett, an 85-year-old widow, visits his office to secure a new will, it seems his luck has finally changed: she claims she’s sitting on a $20 million fortune and no one else knows about it.
Lots of twists and turns and the lawyer being charged with something he didn’t do… Looking forward to it.
Looks good! (I won’t start reviewing Christmas books just yet, even if I start listening to them. It’s not quite November…) but watch this space! Any top recommendations of New Christmas books out please let me know.
