School’s Out-ing! And sneaky peeks

Last week it was time for another Morden Farm Middle School Great Get-together, and Howard came too! We five were all in the same class, from age 9 till 13, in Lower Morden in Surrey. That’s how long I’ve known my now-other-half, and the same with these lovely friends as well. Laura, Sharon, Dawn, H and I met in Chessington Garden Centre for a good old banter. On the topic was what happened to school friends we used to know. The name Neil Develin came up, he was my crush at MFMS for a few years, and now lives in Suffolk, running a tech company with his wife.

H used to hang out with Neil for some years after we finished middle school, and via LinkedIn, I managed to get a quick email update. Then we went through the school picture from when we were around 12 years old – I still marvel at the fact that Howard is standing next to me in this shot! (I’m the one looking away to the left).

One person we all agreed we hadn’t heard from was one of the tallest girls in the class called Lisa Dunn, who used to live in Cherrywood Lane near Cannon Hill Common, if anyone knows of her please put her in touch!

Anyway, we had a good old chinwag and sorted out a date for our next one at the end of June.

It’s always nice to spend a bit of time in that part of my memory box, we will trigger different reminiscences in each other, and I spent the rest of the afternoon feeling rather contemplative. Although I’ve been with Howard Edge four months now, I still sometimes catch myself thinking – “but… how… that’s Howard… from middle school…!” So strange when you knew someone 55 years ago and now they’re back in your life. Nice though!

SNIPPETS

Brad’s Belated Mum’s Day

My lovely son (secret nickname sausage, but don’t tell anyone) invited me over for a belated Mother’s Day get-together. Had a lovely time chasing the kids around as usual, they flee from “the claw”! Just like their dad used to when he was a kid! And got a really nice card and a picture in a frame. Always lovely to see my progeny!

Happy 60th Alison!

One of my dearest friends, ex sister-in-law, Alison, was 60 and we went to her surprise party arranged by her daughter Ashley. So nice to see her so happy and have good chats with some of my relations and I don’t see very much. One of my nephews was discussing ADHD with me and we compared notes! Particularly useful is, ‘body doubling,’ which is simply that someone sits with you to ‘stand guard’ whilst you get a job done, it somehow just keeps you focused! Howard enjoyed meeting more of my kin, as well!

Gatineau’s Golden Glow

Michaela has been raving about the new today’s special value from one of my favourite skin and body care brands, on her social media, and I’m not surprised, it’s the Golden Glow offer not to be missed! Includes the 400 mil size, plus the face serum version! And the brand-new body blur that instantly covers up and gives you an instant tan! No need for tights in the summer! I think it’s going to be another winner. Launches at the weekend but it’s Online now!

Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is an observation about my bedroom habits… And what Howard did when we were at dinner!

Watch – cinema – How to Make a Killing

Interesting premise but weird execution. Glen Powell (a supporting actor in so many other films including Top Gun), was pretty good although his character didn’t grow much. But they gave away the outcome right at the start (if you watch it you’ll see what I mean, it happens straight away). So it took away from the tension… probably a small screen watch unless you love the leading man and want to see him on the big screen! 7.5 out of ten x

Blooper – Oh Jackie Kabler. Oh oh oh!!! See it here.

And Jackie does it again! See it here.

Vlog – no…. Really??!! See it here.

Book of the Week – I found a new author! Michael Murphy, Higher Duty introduces Ben Schroeder, the would-be barrister come from a Jewish part in London in the early 60s… It’s an interesting book because as his first one it’s a bit all over the place at the start. But it comes together nicely by the end. Looking forward to book two 🙂
