Out with the gang and sneaky peeks!

It was time for an ex sister-in-law’s and mum and sister outing last week as we went to Epsom Playhouse to see That’ll Be The Day, the through the decades, music medley, tribute and cabaret theatre show, that was celebrating its 40th anniversary! Trevor and Gary were funny as ever although Trevor is definitely on the tail end of his singing voice bless him. And Gary finally got to sing Roy Orbison‘s pretty woman! (Anyone who has been following this show through the years will know what I mean!)

My lovely Howard came to and enjoyed it. That’s lucky because it’s not everybody’s cup of tea! I’ve had boyfriends in the past where they wouldn’t have been seen dead at a show like that and would’ve taken the Mick out of it rather than seeing the fun in it and enjoyed it! But the musicians were excellent I have to say and some of the performances from the girl singers and the men doing the Beatles, the Eagles et cetera were flipping excellent. The next one we go to see is the Buddy Holly tribute in Crawley for my birthday with Mum!

SNIPPETS

Beautiful Brighton

What a lovely view this was from the reading room café down on the beach in Brighton this week, on one of the days when the sun came out! Still a bit chilly on the back of the motorbike, but I’m getting used to it! Happily Howard’s Honda Pan European is like riding on an armchair, and we even discovered there were heated hand grips at the back! Yay! For a funny picture regarding getting me some new motorbike letters, you need to be a subscriber for my newsletter, see below!

Tommy’s back!

Tommy Cross, The Dizzy guy who does gardening stuff and DIY, returned to QVC last week – he and I always have a heart to heart, he remembers me fondly from when I was presenting children’s television for the forces in Germany, Gibraltar, Cyprus and the Falklands (SSVCTV) between 86 and 96, and his family were based in Germany, and I read out his card when he was six! It was nice to see him and have a catch up.

Pub Picture Quiz

Can you guess these instruments?

H and I did the monthly Green Man pop quiz and this was the picture round, could you guess the instruments? Fortunately I think our guesses took us a little bit up the league table as we finished fifth and one £10 this week! I was very pleased to have got a few of the questions right (what year did Christopher Columbus discover America, and I did well in the flower round, (thank you Richard Jackson’s hours, over the years!) but I made a boo-boo. One of the questions was “what is the pink version of the Hoover called Mr Henry?” See if you can get it right, I didn’t! Answer at the bottom of this page!

Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is what I looked like in my new motorbike jacket and what I promised to myself this summer!!

Watch – Mother’s Pride at the cinema. Formulaic and predictable, but thoroughly enjoyable, the script is excellent and the performances great. Martin Clunes leads a cast of fab Somerset characters enveloped in the tensions between two rival pubs/breweries in a beautiful English town (set in Norton St Philip – we’re going to go there someday!) Mark Addy’s comic turn is impressive, as is James Buckley (Inbetweeners) but the best thing is the script. Some of the comebacks are really funny. And yes it has all the cliché elements you’d expect, including a romance, a rich baddie and a make or break contest. But it’s still worth seeing a real feel good film! I’ll definitely see it again. 8.5 out of 10.

Blooper/funny – a little ADHD one ha ha

And have you heard the one about the chicken…?

Bet that got you!

Plus I’ve got to include this one, it made me roll up this week, there wasn’t anyone quite like Victoria Wood, this time as a flustered hairdresser! See it here.

Vlog – this week’s #Thursdaybantz unlike any other I’ve done! But this is the one I want to give you a look at, a bit of the walk down by the lakes in Sussex! Enjoy! See it here.

Book of the Week – I’m afraid I’m still on a Prime Suspect roll! Book 2 in the trilogy that spawned the TV series, was very good, tracing a serial killer who at first appeared innocent. But book 3 takes it to the next level especially the development of Tennison’s character and the way she deals with contemptuous colleagues, superiors and press. It’s interesting to see how the skills of the author progressed over the course of creating the series. Bear in mind that her ‘Prime Suspect’ trilogy was written long before the Jane Tennison prequel series, and still has a lot going for it, but if you’re starting from the beginning, I’d go through the whole lot, following the timeline. I think there are 10 prequel stories then follow up with the Prime Suspect trilogy after that. Really enjoying it. Apparently, Linda LaPlante has yet another female copper as the heroine in a different series of books, (apart from the other one I’ve already read, Anna Travis). So I know what my next reads will be! BUT If you have any recommendations for me feel free to email me, Info@ this website :-). I do feel like a QC/KC/barrister story next!

  1. Love reading all your news, Debs, and very glad you’re so happy with H.
I’m a retired teacher and have endless rhymes to remember dates, etc, which I used to teach students. Includes ‘In fourteen hundred and ninety two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue’. Often useful in quizzes!
Can I ask a favour … have messaged QVC more than once to ask.if the Denim and Co jacket could be made in a petite fit? I love it and have tried but it’s just too long, especially the sleeves. If it could just be produced in a ‘standard’ colour – maybe indigo or mid blue – I’m sure it would sell well. I’m sure I’m not the only one!
Thanks, Debs. Have a good week. x
