Brother Glen and his wife Boki arrived back from Sweden for a flying visit, literally, and to go to the Bruce Springsteen concert, for the second time in a week! We had a little get-together outside my sister’s on a balmy day with a beautiful breeze. Brother-in-law Dave did a barbecue, mum and her partner Dave came round, and brother Dave arrived after I left. (Everybody needs a Dave! LOL.) Nice to be with all the family, especially the siblings, and mum was very happy.
My wonderful niece Beckie bought me a sun hat! Very useful for keeping the rays off my face!
We also managed to have a knock about on the tennis court at our flats, very appropriate since Wimbledon has just finished! First time I’ve done it in three years. I was like an old granny plodding around after the ball and missing it! I used to be quite good! I think I will stick to badminton LOL. Great fun though and it was nice to see everybody.
SNIPPETS
Garden Delight
The weather has been up-and-down lately hasn’t it? It really poured down recently, the garden loves it. This is my ‘bed on the bend’, at our flats in Banstead – the dianthus, lilies, and now poppies, are looking lovely! Such a relief after everything was so dry. Devon has also been super dry of late but fingers crossed the recent rains have helped. Thanks very much to my neighbours there for helping to put the odd watering can around, when needed. More news from my Devon retreat next week.
Good for Them!
Made me chuckle this week, mum and her 80 year old partner David went out to the car boot sale near Epsom and he came back with a mini surfboard! He’ll use it when he swims again in the sea apparently, which would not be so bad except mum added, ‘when he’s recovered from his hip replacement operation’. When I’m a grown-up I want to be him and my mum! LOL
Nostalgia
Went to see Fiona Summers recently and drove past my old house. Looks so different with all the trees gone at the back, it was so dark and dingy when I lived there in 2015/16. Hollow Lane near Dorking looks super in the sunshine and a big hello to lovely Bryony who waved to me from the gate, with her pooch!
Watch – okay I am not going to say Indiana Jones again! Even though there’s a chance I might see it again for the third time LOL. Instead, I don’t know if you are aware but Ideal World, who for the last 23 years has been the closest UK competitor to QVC, went down this week. There were lots of conversations amongst people who worked there, through the years. I was there for one year right at the start, and happily came back to QVC several years later. So look online e.g. search Youtube for ‘Ideal World videos’ and you will see some clips; look in particular for one called TellySales, I think, or ‘telly shopping a Channel 4 documentary’ where they followed us around just before the launch. The best of times, the worst of times! Some more nostalgia if you get my newsletter! Best wishes to everybody who lost their jobs and fingers crossed the industry will settle down a bit, it’s never nice when it happens but Ideal World had a very chequered history…
Watch 2 – here’s an extra for you, I went to see Mission Impossible, the latest one, which is part one in Tom Cruise‘s latest adventure. It was a ridiculous plot with ludicrous chases, as normal… and I loved every minute! Dramatic pauses, serious plot-exposition-faces, and wonderful effects. I was on the edge of my seat through some of it. I’m serious, I loved it. Hope you get to see it too. I’ll probably see it again at some point. And I love now that they have so much tongue in cheek dialogue especially with Simon Pegg being part of the lineup. Hope you enjoy as much as I did! 10 out of 10.
Funny – here’s the one that made me laugh out loud is this week, how funny is this!? LOL X
Podcast
Go here to get the latest Inside QVC podcast from Will, and the current one if you haven’t listened yet :-). Don’t forget there’s a massive back list to catch up on, too!
This week Will talks to Elaine from Estée Lauder, about her love of beauty and their amazing TSV offer is coming up soon. It features advanced night repair! Don’t miss it, it’s superb value! X
Vlog – Go here to see a beautiful scene outside QVC this week 🙂
Book of the Week – I’m rediscovering Alexa, reading my Kindle books! I’m now halfway through ‘The Jagged Line’, my lovely friend Carolyn Mahony’s second in a series featuring Harry Biscombe, the detective! And very good it is too 🙂 The good thing about Alexa is that you can listen to your books even if it has not officially been made into an audiobook. The same way you can listen to anything on Audible, and the internation is sometimes uncanny given it’s A.I. Give it a go! Just say “Alexa read me my Kindle book,” and it should pick up on the current title from where you left off the last time you were reading the Kindle book!!
