This week I went down early to Wales, to spend time with my Lauren and her family, for Mother’s Day.
Her treat for me was to take me to a lovely lunch at a wonderful place in a seaside town called Aberaeron. We had a nice walk along the beach afterwards. And I had some right laughs with her and the kids. It included going to the playground where I went on the climbing frame with Phoebe (see some exclusive pictures and more details in this week’s newsletter!) Obviously they’re not social media kids so there’s nothing showing their faces but I can tell you a little story about lollipop! She said that she had spent a long time filling in a form with a certain pen which she showed me, from the kids’ colouring box. Then she said she went back to the form and she hadn’t filled it in at all and thought she was going mad! Turns out it was a disappearing ink pen she picked up! LOL LOL. Looks like a normal one when you write with it, but you don’t know until it’s too late that it’s actually a trick one! Phoebe also made me die with laughter when I was nearly falling asleep dozing off on the sofa, and she came in dressed in a towel only, hid underneath it like a ghost, and went boo in her loudest voice! So funny. Little monkey! And her brother is hilarious, including loving all of his cars. Look at this little collection which I thought, all lined up in front of Balloo the dog, looked a bit like she was doing a car boot sale. Hence the little sign! Very funny!
A great day was had by all, although it’s a long way to go for basically one whole day, and half the day before, I really enjoy seeing them. Fingers crossed I get to see Brad and his kids in the next week or so as well. Hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day this weekend, whatever you’re doing.
SNIPPETS
Back on the Chat Show Sofa!
What a lovely ‘menopause your way’ hour I did the other day, with some super guests. We had a bit of a laugh, and some brilliant products. One of which is the amazing elasticiser from Philip Kingsley in a Sicilian lemon fragrance. Gorgeous! Hope you saw it. It has to be one of my favourite shows. I like spending time with the guests beforehand, making sure we have a good thorough preparation chat so I’ve planned what’s going to happen when I go live! Then it can seamlessly look as though it’s all spur of the moment ha ha! These things aren’t just thrown together you know! Hope you liked it 🙂
Sunday Treat & check out the new cupboards!
Came back from work last Sunday having finished a bit earlier than normal (what a treat!) And enjoyed three episodes of “Egypt by Train” with Alice Roberts, whilst eating this lovely dinner that my wonderful sister and her hubby had left for me. What a lucky girl I am! It was heaven. Big benefits to living a stone’s throw away! Plus – check out the cupboards! A lady called Liz came round and did an amazing paint job! It looks a real ‘shaker’ cupboard now doesn’t it – in my favourite colour! Yay. Now I just need to get the windows sorted. Bear in mind it’s a grade 2 listed building even though it was only built in the 1930s, (because part of the estate was an 1800s manor house). So the windows at the back remain to be attended to if I can find a way – one of them being in the kitchen. It is what’s called a Crittall window, old, dusty, terrible condensation, gets rusty easily… Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to take that off the list of things to do by organising an appropriate replacement – if our current planning enquiries are anything to go by! You never know your luck 🙂
Aurora…
You might hear us talking about the aurora borealis tinge to crystals on our jewellery items or on stones on clothing designs… We look at this wonderful shot from Facebook this week, from somebody in Devon/Cornwall area, the real thing, so far South! Made me smile when I remembered going to Iceland several years ago before lockdown, with my lovely friend, Business Woman Gill, with whom I go on adventures. It rained the whole time so we never got to see it! Still on my bucket list. This one’s pretty though isn’t it, hope you saw it last week where you are!
Watch – ‘Masters of The Air,’ a World War 2 drama series, on Apple TV. Whilst I was down with lollipop and Nick, this was what they were watching, looks pretty good! And features Austin Butler, who played Elvis in the recent movie and was excellent. He’s very smouldering. Following the fortunes of the American Air Force units who were stationed in East Anglia, who helped to defeat Hitler in World War II with their bombing raids, some of whom were captured in prisoner of war camps, and some of whom were absolute heroes. I think I might actually watch this from the beginning! Looks good.
Blooper – A perfect example of think before you speak. LOL. See it here.
Plus anyone remember captain Black and the Mysterons? This made me smile this week! What a flashback!
Podcast – Go here to get the latest Inside QVC podcast from Will, and the current one if you haven’t listened yet :-). Don’t forget there’s a massive back list to catch up on, too!
This week it’s the turn of another lovely menopause expert, talking about compassion and being kind to yourself.
Vlog – a lovely walk along the beach in Wales! See it here.
Book of the Week – ‘The List of Suspicious Things’ by Jennie Godfrey.
With several different viewpoints and the settings based around historical facts, this novel appealed to me because of the late 1970s era, the premise following two young girls, would be detective, and the society they lived in when the Yorkshire ripper round the streets. Well narrated mainly by Joanna Froggat, of Downton Abbey fame. Really enjoying it.

Hi Debbie,
Great blog as always. I noticed that your flats need to replace old Crittall windows. I’ve seen quite a bit about Fabco online and wondered if that might be of interest (Crittall are still trading and have developed double glazed versions of old style windows too). I live in a 1930’s house and have a tendency to be drawn to articles about renovations of 1930’s homes.
Always look forward to your blog.
Kind regards,
Nikki.
