Meeting my editor

But first... Writing writing writing! And some reading. Then more writing…! As I now move onto my next project, ‘French or Dutch,’ things went full circle with my first meeting about my original novel, with the lovely editor Jane Eastgate (pictured.) 'My' editor! Hah! As many of you know, I’ve now been signed to Choc Lit, the super independent publishing house for witty women’s fiction, for my Hawaiian trilogy. (See blog in the summer for more info!) Well, this week it was time to meet the lady who will be editing Hawaiian Affair, and helping me get proofs ready for them to publish in paperback next year. It was a salubrious venue – not! - but convenient for both of us. The services at Clackett Lane on the M25! Haha! One day it'll be Claridges, but for now, our preliminary meeting was a simple one! lol.

For those who are interested, Jane had proofed and edited my book and came armed with a long list of tweaks which will help make my first novel with Choc Lit be more in keeping with their house style. Plus some suggestions about the plot.

If you’ve read the novel it concerns a character who turns out to be a bit Machiavellian and instrumental in the whole hero/heroine tale. This new version will be tighter and with even more drama and conflict. Well, assuming all the changes will be made, it’ll make for an interesting new update to Hawaiian Affair, which became my first ever self-published work around June 2013 and now has 96 five star reviews on Amazon. (to see it go here.)

The next step is that by mid November the changes will be done, with the intention of getting the new version up on eBook but the updated version published by Choc Lit – not just on Amazon either. And then by the middle of next year, all being well, the paperback will be out. I’ll keep you informed! Exciting though eh, and I’m very, very proud to be facing the prospect of achieving one of my life’s ambitions, to go into a bookstore and see my books on the shelf! Squeee!

Meanwhile, the big news is that Hocus Pocus ’14 is now available on Amazon! Go here to get the eBook or paperback, of 13 spooky short stories with a twist in the tale, written by me and twelve other authors. It’s 99p only, if you can’t wait till Hallowe’en when we’ll be doing a Facebook online ‘party’ and freebie promotion. Click here for more info on Facebook. ‘Like’ the page and ‘join’ the event to keep abreast of when the freebie will be on! And do leave us a review if you’ve read it already!

In the run up to Hallowe’en I’m introducing the authors involved. We’ve had five so far, over the last two weeks. So here are a few more!

Tracy Burton – a relatively new voice, who’s written ‘Insubstantial Evidence’ for our anthology. Check out her interview here.

Stef Edward writes short stories and influential blogs and has submitted The Last Leg. This was a story she read out on ‘reading out loud night’ at the Arvon Retreat at Totleigh Barton in April. It tickled me, so I asked her to join our anthology! She writesregularly here.

Alison May is a published author and witty writer who brings us ‘Haunted House’ – read all about her here!

(Next week – we focus on the remaining writers Litty Williams, Mary Jane Hallowell and Carolyn Mahony, my partners in crime from the Ladies of Posara writing group!)

Don’t forget full info about the Hallowe’en event and page on facebook is here! Hocus Pocus ’14, the anthology of spooky short stories, is now available to download on eBook or buy as a paperback! Full info and links to get it are here, plus details of how to join our Facebook Hallowe’en Party on the big day itself!

Book of the Week – ‘Your Life in Your Hands.’

Considering Monday was Breast Cancer Care night on QVC, I thought I’d include a very interesting book by a breast cancer survivor, Professor Jane Plant, a doctor who discovered what she thinks was at the root of her problem - and it’s more insidious than you might think. She wrote the book to raise awareness about an everyday thing we all take for granted, and explains how she came to that conclusion.  ‘Your Life in Your Hands’ is definitely worth a look, IMO, as not everybody but many may find it utterly illuminating and valuable as a reference tool. You never know, right? Go here to read the ‘look inside’ sample especially if the byline ‘Understand, prevent and overcome breast cancer and ovarian cancer’ catches your attention, or that of someone you know who needs to read it.
