Why a Best Selling Author Chose to Self-Publish. How Wattpad Helps with Work in Progress. And Sneaky Peek at Early Draft Cover for My Compendium!
8 August 2014

Early draft of new Compendium Early draft of new Compendium

THIS WEEK -

-          What made a New York Times bestselling author take a leap into the unknown

-          How ‘wattpad.com’ is helping with Work in Progress issues

-          And tickets selling fast for the screenwriting festival in London in October

-          Plus the first look at my next title – a compendium including two short stories and a novel.

It’s the question that stirs traditionally published authors to become hybrids – self-publishing their own works as well – namely, why take a smaller piece of the pie? See ‘other news’ below for Eileen Goudge’s reasons, and she was a best selling New York Times author who got left behind by a big publisher. What would you do?

It’s interesting since I’ve come at it totally from the opposite end. I’ve never known that kind of trad deal, I’ve only sold via self-publishing, or ‘indie’ publishing. Yet what goes now is not the same as in the height of the self-pub wave a year or so ago. Half the sales, at best guess, because of increased choice, and back lists being added every day. It’s the norm now, to see a full-length novel being sold on eBook for £1.99 or £1.50 or even 99p. So volume is the key to making it pay, at least to cover the costs of employing a professional cover designer and editor/proof reader, like most semi-pro indie authors now do. Also read this account from Claire Cook, also guesting on Jane Friedman’s excellent blog for authors.

I’m aiming for volume, as I’ve explained previously, considering the schedule of titles so far released this year, and more to follow. Initially at least. It's certainly keeping my beta readers and editors busy! In fact, the pic above is of another title I'll be releasing – read below for more. Meanwhile, here’s some more feedback that makes my heart smile when I read it on Amazon -

Hawaiian Retreat – 5*reviewsclick here to see my most recent steamy romance on Amazon -

“Have now read the trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was really engrossed with the story and characters and was sorry to come to the end of the series. Thanks for some great reading.”
