Mummy-Catch Up Time. And seven day sneaky peeks!

I’m always rather glad when the first couple of weeks of the New Year are over and done with. The anti-climax of the decorations coming down, the dull horrible weather, and getting back into routine after tons of family time make it a bit dismal. And so to make it more enjoyable, I peppered this week, which included three full days off work, with lots of catch up time with my lovely mum. Helping her do admin and going out for meals and walks. We took advantage of a deal at the carvery on one of the evenings to see my ex sister-in-law‘s and good friends of the family, Nicky and Alison. We had a really lovely catch up and sat there for ages afterwards just talking.

I also took mum out, and made sure she started walking again. She’s got a bad knee at the moment and is on the list for a knee replacement. So it’s very important to get moving a lot. When it wasn’t raining we were out walking. There were not that many windows of opportunity if you remember! I’ve also got in a little walk myself every day this week which is good practice for getting back into good habits.

And then there was this… Someone asked online if you are a fan of liver and onions or not, well we had just gone to her favourite café in Tattenham Corner, her favourite meal! So that says it all! Lovely time with my lovely mummy, I’m very lucky to live next door. See more on this week’s newsletter!

SNIPPETS

Clever Sis!

One of the reasons my sister Linda wasn’t there was because she was too busy doing her studies. She’s now well on the way with her training to become a counsellor, “doing an ology,” as they used to say! Funny thing is when we were growing up she would get me to do her homework, sort out difficult tasks, arrange things, research things for her because she claimed she wasn’t clever enough… Now she’s coming out with all sorts of educated observations, and swotting up on books like the one she’s holding, from the renowned psychologist Jung. And it makes me realise, even though I’m in Mensa, just who really IS the clever one!

Top Soup!

Made the best soup ever, this week, was really really really really delicious. It was chicken stock starter, with lots of vegetables, and potatoes, all whizzed up… OMG so good! I ate half of it before the end of the night! And only made a little bit of a mess on the tiles… (By the way, I’m going to have my kitchen cupboards repainted: check out the exclusive on this week’s newsletter, for subscribers only).

Puzzle Progress!

This is the latest. This week, the box sets I’ve been watching – while I’ve been completing it – include that new sci fi series (mentioned under Watch), as well as the first few episodes of ‘Fool Me Once’. Enjoying it. Finished all the defining features and people… But now look. Just trees, bricks and snow sections left …and trees and more trees and snow. Did I mention the trees? And the snow? LOL. I’m enjoying it though, it’s rather addictive because of the little ‘squeeee’ feeling every time I get a difficult bit in place!

Watch – absolutely loving ‘The Traitors’, obviously. I romped through four on the trot the other night on one of my days off! I have also fallen in love with a new TV series called ‘Manifest’. It’s new to me, the first series goes back to 2022, and there are dozens to watch! Based on a plane that took a normal journey, had a massive lightning storm then arrived at the other end only to find that they touched down five years later! Picking up with their lives, they find some of them are getting Psychic messages about each other. And a couple of very hunky men. Blooming love it! I also began watching (whilst doing jigsaw, as above), ‘The Diplomat’ too, with the excellent Rufus Sewell. Liking that one and will watch more. He is very charismatic!

But I’m planning a big film fest at the cinema on Tuesday next week. Not only Priscilla, but also the one Emma Stone won an award for, ‘Poor Things’, and then ‘One Life’, about a hero from World War II saving children and getting them to the UK. Can’t wait!

Blooper – Kathryn Goldsmith was laughing so much the other night telling me about a little faux pas she made on Air. Selling those lovely satin trousers we’ve been seeing a lot of, she accidentally put an extra H in there near the start… and in the context of what she was saying, it was even more funny… you can imagine! She makes me laugh. And she’s exactly the same behind-the-scenes! Love her.

Podcast

Go here to get the latest Inside QVC podcast from Will, and the current one if you haven’t listened yet :-). Don’t forget there’s a massive back list to catch up on, too!

This Monday, Will Gowing speaks to QVC guest presenter, Anne Dorrington. Anne talks about her initial jobs before joining QVC nearly 29 years ago, her shopping television career in Canada and America, plus life away from QVC

Vlog – Guess what’s on at the weekend! It’s time for the Dyson Hair brand to reappear, and it’s a new supersonic hairdryer TSV! It will be such a good price! Loads of people will want it, so get in early. Join me 9pm Saturday night! It’s also a great colour. And it works so fast. This (here) was me drying my hair in about three minutes recently! Join me if you can :-).

Book of the Week – I’ve discovered a new author, her name is Lindsey Kelk! She’s written a super book called ‘Love Me Do’ which I romped through this week. Her turn of phrase is so funny. I can imagine her book being a TV series, lots of quirky situations, and inspired settings. Plus a really super love story in the middle of it all. This latest one is set in LA, which is one of my favourite places in the world. The story was a little bit like ‘The Holiday’, elements of the Kate Winslet storyline, and really enjoyable. I’ll pick up others by her after this one for sure.
