Debbie Flint

Oooooo!! My little girl is fit to pop! And only two weeks till her due date. Mind you, she and Brad were both ten days or more late, so was Brad's baby Blake Katherine. And a couple of their cousins' kids. So it might be another month!! Hope not tho - it's going to be marvellous!

How proud am I?!

Plus, on another topic, more pride. Derek my lovely sponsor dog has had his passing out parade at last! Hooray! Medical Detection Dogs have kept me informed about his progress for the two years or so since I paid to name him, and it's been a pleasure to chart his progress. Now he has been allocated to a lovely guy, pictured with Derek here, and I'm so proud of the lovely little chap. He'll now help his new 'partner' detect high or low blood sugar levels and signal him to do a blood test. Even when Derek's asleep he's trained to wake up if he needs to do an alert. He's now one of the fold and will stay with his owner through thick and thin. How wonderful. More info about my fab charity for which I'm an ambassador here. and on my blogs here.

Book of the week  - is from one of my regular authors, mind you I haven't read his thriller selection before, only the historicals. Ken Follett has been busy with the latest called The Key to Rebecca. It's a steamy thriller filled with classic baddies and an Agatha Christie 'orient express' feel. Go here to find out more.

This week's QVC blog will feature a funny from lovely Charley Farley my presenter pal, when he and Ali K hosted Diamonique finale - he's a card! And the big wardrobe malfunction I experienced this week! more here from thursday pm. The new Amanda Wakeley bag is going live at midnight Sunday (9th) with Charlie - looks good!

Finally - if you're down Devon way, do feel free to get in touch if you're passing by one Wednesday! Also in December we are going to be putting on a special Xmas concert, Barry and I (see last few week's blogs) with another chance to come along to mine afterwards - this time for mulled wine or punch, so do stay at the Half Moon Inn at Sheepwash and visit the tea rooms on the day after. The date is December 11th...

More soon!

I'm currently writing this from my hotel room overlooking Protaras beach in sunny Cyprus- according to the thermometer on the hotel wall it's 33 degrees sunny, to be exact! So I thought I'd mention a few things that I've loved about my annual summer holiday this year.

Firstly - when the sun went in! As you'll know from previous blogs, including this one from last June all about my rare genetic 'thing' called EPP, I can't stay in the sun. So when a rare overcast afternoon meant I could go in the see and not worry about the sunshine, I took advantage! (see pic in montage)

Otherwise it was a regular evening swim in the hotel pool, where the sun dipped low enough to provide some shade yet the water was lovely and warm.

We've had some wonderful food, my sis and mum and their partners, and I've relaxed loads. Yoga has been on the menu every morning at ten. As was a smashing massage in the Elemis spa in the nearby Sunshine Pearl hotel. And lots of brain games like doing the daily crossword and Sudoku with mum, and the daily poolside quiz. Also had a good couple of nights out including cocktails with the management and karaoke at the Zodiac up the strip! And I've written a lot - not just catching up on all the social media and emails, including for Retreats for You bookings (latest dates on the post here) but also getting on with my next novel, French or Dutch. I'm well over 62000 words now. Getting there. the room is comfy and the views are fab. It's right on the beach so the sea features in many picturesque shots!

Have loved being away and being able to get time to do all the things I wanted to do - even did some bodyblade! Trouble is there's never enough time is there! And I fly back to a very busy retreat week in Devon at my place this Monday. It's nearly full! But I'm looking forward to it! Hope you have a nice June too - whatever you do?

Medical Detection Dogs meet Royalty

Puppydog puppydog where have you been- they've been to London to visit the Queen! Well what an amazing achievement to not only be celebrating ten years anniversary but also to be invited to meet the Queen herself and HRH Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall, who has been a patron since 2015. Here's my latest report on it - including link to a video! Very proud of the charity for which I am an ambassador.

Book of the Week - is a super suspense/drama/crime/thriller - Cross Her Heart - by one of my top authors Sarah Pinborough. She had my 2017 Book of the Year 'Behind Her Eyes' and this new one is fab too! Go here to read more on my book of the week blog RiWiSi.

Plus if you're after a little list of top tips for great summer reads, do go to my latest QVC blog here - which also includes a couple of sneaky peeks for the week ahead on QVC - and the Early Bird order link for the new Nails Inc deal is here! Apologies for not emailing my newsletter last week - ran out of time ahead of hols!

Want to get away? How about a little trip down to Devon this summer - we are mainly a writing retreat but that doesn't mean we don't occasionally have non-writers. I have two full weeks booked of non writers, actually, so always worth asking us! Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to enquire about dates, and have a little look here - by the way - we have spaces currently on our yoga week on August 13th if you fancy doing one or two classes each day!

Ok so I'd better get back to writing my book - one day I'll get it finished!

Much love

Such a fab article - and a great photo!

NR Times, the magazine for brain and spinal patients, explore the work these clever canines are doing.

It starts like this -

Like most dedicated healthcare staff, Kim is up early on weekdays. After a healthy breakfast, she heads to work, ready for her shift.

She spends the day embroiled in ground-breaking disease research and is rewarded handsomely for her efforts.

Unusually for a health worker, however, she walks on all fours and wags her tail when she’s happy.

Kim is a black Labrador and her employer is Medical Detection Dogs – an organisation that looks certain to have a greater impact in neuro-rehab circles in future...

read the rest of the piece here, and pls check out MDD website here, including the latest products on sale and how to donate, sponsor a puppy and even name a puppy...

Beautiful little dog! She's such an adorable, loving animal, seriously one of the cutest ever and everyone's little star down at the research centre, where the bio detection dogs get to 'play games' all day when the 'go to work' - rather, doggy day care, where they help with early detection of human disease.

This week Dr Claire Guest was in the news again - along with Carolyn and her Pal. Well done team!

Don't forget the Mega Draw is now on till Sunday 13th August - just a £5 donation buys you a ticket to our official MDD raffle - go here to get one soon and check out the impressive list of prizes - big bundles this time - worth a go!

And tickets are now available for the jazz concert in The Plough, torrington, Devon, on Saturday 16th September - go here to buy tickets - do come it'll be fun! more about it here on the Facebook event page.

It's here! The brand-new raffle in aid of medical detection dogs is now active on JustGiving. There are some amazing prizes - see the full post here and check out the amazing value of first prize! All you have to do is buy a ticket for 5 pounds and Just Giving will do the rest, as will Sara the lovely lady who always organises these fundraisers. There are some massive prizes this time as you can see, it is on until . The winners will be notified straight after. All the info you need is on the page. Thank you in advance for helping.

We have raised some wonderful money in the past, I do hope we are able to do so again now, especially considering how Dr Claire has been doing the rounds on various TV news interview programs recently following the announcement that the medical detection dogs team will before long be able to help detect Parkinson's disease apparently (see here.) That's on top of their work with the NHS in a trial to detect prostate cancer in urine samples provided by the hospital. Plus maybe even breast cancer one day.

That's half of what they do. The other half is that they provide individual dogs to owners who have illnesses, eg diabetes (type one brittle) plus they even cover the cost of the upkeep and everything for the poor patient. It really is a worthy cause and I do hope you are lucky! Fingers crossed for you!

Raving about Rowan

I have to say I am absolutely raving at the moment about the brilliant Rowan Coleman novel - 'The Summer of Impossible Things.' I finished the audio book this week and it was one of those books that had me entranced – I kept finding myself staring into space because I was thinking about the characters in the story and could not wait to get back to the next bit. It is a genius time travel web of intrigue, and I loved every second. Do read my review here, where you can also find out how to get it for free.

Plus if anyone finds it, this week's My Weekly mag has a story by Julie Cohen my mentor. Julie is doing a tutored workshop at Retreats for You, our guesthouse, on September 25, Monday to Friday, for £600 or so. Full board including wine at dinner, tuition, one-to-one et cetera. If it is still available or if you would like to go on waitlist for the next one, do let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

My QVC blog this week is now up here and has some interesting news, and a picture of Lee Hohbein my telly hubby - and his ripped pants! Ha ha! Do go see if you can. It also has tons of sneaky peaks from next week as usual and the early bird link available now for a cool pair of Skechers ballet pumps, Sunday's TSV. And which high flying daring ride I may go on in the next few weeks... out now, do go look.

On Facebook this week there were several Vlogs that were very different – including this one which was done from inside the 'Filter Through' coffee shop in Holsworthy where I go regularly not only to Waitrose but also to shop or to meet friends. Thing is when I tell them where to meet, I often mistakenly put 'see you in the Follow-Through…' OOps!  Now that would be an interesting shop… Not! Go to my official Facebook page to find out more and see some of the blogs. Do be sure and 'Like' the Facebook page if you would like to get regular updates.

At home in Devon this week, I took a photograph outside in the back courtyard to show the lovely flowers, the dogs came trotting after me and I said to them 'sit!' - as you do. And they did! Like two sentries! Like those lions on either side of a gated entrance. How funny.

Next week look out for a special video on the electric bike that I have now finally got set up and I'm using around the beautiful Devon countryside. It may be going up a very steep Hill pretty easy I must admit :-)

More next week.

Have a great week!

Luv
