Had a very very very very busy week last week! I know my weeks are usually packed but this one was off the scale. With very little time for me-time apart from short trips round the fields when I was with my daughter in Wales!
So Lauren came down on Friday for the hen do for my niece Stephanie on the Friday night. Then on Saturday I was at work, and watched a film with Lolly in the evening. Then on Sunday we went to meet Brad and the kids at Bocketts farm – super venue just outside Leatherhead, highly recommended! So nice to see all the kiddies together.
Here’s a little reel I made to summarise it! (See it here).
Then it was off to Wales for two nights to take Lolly back and I returned for a board meeting for meeting new directors for our Surrey flats on Wednesday night, and a day of making reels on the Thursday before #Thursdaybantz Facebook live catch up in the evening.
Bocketts farm was very interesting for the kids when they saw lots of animals up close and fed many of them. Plus so many activities and playgrounds to play in 🙂
Plus a flying visit to a beach on Thursday morning, Poppin Sands, before heading back for the London dinner just off Whitehall in the evening!
Hectic but full of fun, and the kids made me laugh so much! Hope you had a good Easter as well.
SNIPPETS
Duck n Chick
Did some enjoyable crafts with little Phoebe who made a little Easter chick (for my mum, to feel better after her knee replacement op – recovery all going well), and a funny whose head was made of a chocolate mini egg that she had collected on her Easter egg hunt in the fields. She enjoyed it so much, it was the longest I’ve ever spent with one of the grandchildren just doing crafts, we were there about 2 1/2 hours! She loves it so much bless her little heart, she was so proud afterwards.
1920s Insights
In the process of doing research for my 1920s based novel, I recently came across this during a helping out session – (a little bit of a house clearance effort after one of Mum and her partner’s friends sadly died) and his late wife’s mother’s passport from 1920 was in the dust covered suitcases. How fascinating is this. And look at the questions and descriptions! Another era eh! Denis’s late wife was a lady called Doris Steel, a close associate of Benny Hill in his early years, and she was a windmill girl! What a career! And again another different era once more :-). It would be lovely to find something to do with the old newspaper clippings and black-and-white photos and yellowing certificates but there are no descendants that anyone knows of.
Any ideas please let me know! Any collectors of windmill girls memorabilia or Benny Hill memorabilia groups anywhere, you can email me on the email at the top of this website. Fank uuuu!
Another day another ‘do!’
Tuesday saw another one of my under 26s suppers with important speakers in London. Well attended once more, the meal was steak the biggest fish and chips I’ve ever seen! I enjoy arranging events and this one was no exception! Subscribers to my newsletter will see who the guests were!
Watch – One of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen. Was it an April fool? I hope not! I wouldn’t think Attenborough would get involved with an April fools of that depth… Plus it was posted on the wrong day… Fingers crossed 🙂 (See it here).
Watch 2 – Josh Must Win on ch4. A new obsession for me! Such a good concept, the next step in! A bit like Big Brother but with four celebrities watching in secret, manipulating the outcomes of who they all vote for as a favourite, with the plan that just one person – Josh the underdog – will be the winner, without any of them finding out! I think it’s rather ingenious, and seeing their reactions is the funniest thing! Highly recommended, the final is next week! See it all on catch up 🙂
Blooper/ Funny – had a right laugh with my #Thursdaybantz this week – look out for the boo-boo in my kitchen halfway through, plus some giggles with a very unusual lamp… (See it here).
Podcast – Go here to get the latest Inside QVC podcast from Will, and the current one if you haven’t listened yet :-). Don’t forget there’s a massive back list to catch up on, too!
This week Will Gowing speaks to woodwork expert and QVC guest presenter Rob Woods about his passion for woodwork, starting his own company and his time on the road in a band!
Vlog – beautiful weather on Easter Monday in Wales!
Book of the Week
‘The Officer‘s Wife’ by Merryn Allingham. My lovely writing friend Merryn has re-released another novel. Far removed from ‘Flora Steele and the Bookshop Murders’ cosy crime series, this time, it’s book one of the Daisy Driscoll saga. Daisy, the girl from lowly Cobb Street (this is a revised edition of ‘The Girl from Cobb Street’), finds herself at the social ladder, about to be a bride in India mixing with haughty officers’ wives and getting involved in mysteries! Not on audio yet but I’m hoping it will be :-). Out on the sixth.
Plus I’m really enjoying ‘Every Move You Make’, by C.L. Taylor, one of the regular guests down in my writing retreat in Devon. Her latest one is prime fodder to be made into a TV series imo, I think. So gripping! Well done Cally!
