Having the ‘Lyme’ of my life… and other such puns! Caught some dying rays of the sun in this great shot, on a scheduled break to the south coast this week, to one of my favourite places, Lyme Regis. The scenery is amazing, the bay is nice to walk around, and I feel like it resonates with me so much, I think I lived here in the 1800s! LOL Plus – had the most incredible fish and chips on the first night. Yum! Sitting in a restaurant we fell in love with last year, right on the front.

My plans changed slightly this week though and I shunted it forward two days, and I really needed the break. By the time I’d finished supper I couldn’t keep my eyes open! Anyway, second day, went off to Poole in Dorset, (see Vlog below.)
So nice to just take time out, isn’t it? And the crashing waves are such a beautiful sound. One day I may even retire down to the coast somewhere! Then again… retire? What’s that!?
Ps the exclusive over on my newsletter this week, sent to everyone’s inbox who subscribes, was about who I went with! Find out more about how to sign up for these each week, alerting you that the new blog is out, here.

Mothers who Lunch
Had an unexpected extra day at home on Tuesday (I moved my trip to Lyme Regis obviously, so I left home on Wednesday instead of Tuesday.) It meant I had a whole extra day at home and I used it to treat mum to a belated Mother’s Day lunch at her favourite local café in Tattenham Corner near Epsom Downs. We had a proper chat and a really good catch up, then went shopping for a little while. It was lovely to spend time with her.

Simon Wilson Chose…
…his gorgeous horsehead brooch with crystal fringed mane, and put it on my lapel for me, for our Butler & Wilson show together last week. Lots of lovely coronation items including his Regal crown designs too. We had such a blast, two solid hours of chat and a lot of reminiscing given he has been at QVC 28 years? Now that’s sticking power! The jacket was my favourite Ruth Langsford one, gorgeous with the leopard lining cuffs as well. One of my favourite photos I think, bless him.

Oops!!
Had a lovely flying visit to my daughter’s again, had a heart-to-heart with her which was really nice on Saturday, we never get time to talk nowadays and I miss it. Plus I was waiting for them to arrive, I did a nice walk around the field. Go and look at my social media where I post videos about things like this all through the week. On one vlog, I told about what happened to me just as I was leaving Devon to drive to Wales – I slipped on some moss on the drive! And there’s me always talking to people about using things like Wet and Forget or Crikey Mikey to avoid such things! (Must add another job to the Devon list.) I landed square on my bum, and my elbow – it was grazed but nothing worse – obviously all the blubber cushioning my fall, stopped it being worse. Note to self, take more care!

Beeeeee Amazed
Bee news!! In the countdown to world bee day in May, I thought you might be as fascinated by this close-up picture of a bee as I am. Look out on the 2nd of May Diamonique show when to mark the occasion, I will be bringing out some new Debbie Flint bee jewelry designs (my name means bee in ancient Hebrew, for those who don’t know). I can’t wait to see them! And I will be taking part in a funny promo which will be a kind of sendup of seven Hollywood icons wearing Diamonique! Hopefully I will be amongst the 1st to show you the promo when it goes out!
Watch – got stuck into a couple of dramas this week. Firstly I really enjoyed the retelling of ‘The Hunt for Raoul Moat’ on ITVx. Those of us who remember what he did, won’t be shocked at what happens, but the jilted lover turned cop killer drama is really about the people behind the scenes and is quite compelling. A little disturbing but worth a watch.
Then I found on Sky Atlantic, something I’ve been looking out for, for ages – the retelling in a miniseries of the events behind the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the 80s. Some really well-known British actor faces in it, and some fabulous dramatic effects. Can’t wait to get back to watch the next one! (Nothing much for me at the cinema, hoping there will be soon!)
Blooper – Had to include this little one (here), watch this dog’s face, the patience! It loves it! How cute is this? Something to make you smile. #ShortWatch
Here’s another funny, specially chosen because of my visit to the seaside this week, thought this would make you smile!

Podcast
Go here to get the latest Inside QVC podcast from Will, and the current one if you haven’t listened yet :-). Don’t forget there’s a massive back list to catch up on, too!
Will Gowing speaks to QVC gardening expert, Emilia Grant. Amelia tells Will about first working as a dancer and travelling the world, her love of sport and then joining us here at QVC!
Vlog – Whilst down in Lyme Regis I went to see Keith Parker at his turtle paradise rescue for turtles in the UK, based in Poole in Dorset. I did intend to see Katie Pullinger as well but she was called into work, shame. But I caught up with Keith & Jenny who lives nearby and is also a regular on my weekly #Thursdaybantz Facebook live. Watch this (here) and you’ll find out more about how Keith survives with just donations to build these amazing little rescue turtle ponds and surroundings! Great work Keith and enjoyed meeting you both!
Book of the Week
This week I went back to another Joy Ellis book. It’s her Murder on the Fens series. I read book one straight away, and then got into book two. The thing is… The narrator is a little bit ghastly. Mispronunciations of quite well-known words (hyper-BOWL anyone?) could be tolerated, but some of her accents are excruciatingly bad. Imagine a failed drama student, doing a parody of what a bad audiobook narrator would sound like doing e.g. cliched cockney accents for thugs, with different degrees of speed and gormlessness the only variation – whiny high voices for women, at different degrees of pitch, or a native Fenland police inspector woman with a north-west accent! I could go on but I won’t. I’ll finish this book and then decide. Even the hero sounds like some monotonous and personality-free bore, and yet another version of “lords and ladies posh“, which seems to be the only other type of accent she can do for the male characters… Grrrrrr. And there are 10 of them in the series! Why did someone not spot this! Audiobook producers have a lot to answer for.
