i just love this pic! One of the proudest, most satisfying experiences of my life was last weekend at the Love Music concert at St Michael's church in Bath Rd Chiswick. Talented musicians and singers... and me... got a chance to perform in the beautiful, acoustically amazing, cavernous church near Turnham Green tube.

Id' been asked to take part when Lorna mentioned me to Sara the lady who works for Bown Building firm, which is the family business full of brilliant musicians, behind the event. This was their second year. Lorna works for Chiswick Buzz the online mag for W4, and was there to record the whole thing too. Now her fab report is out - to see what it was all for, and the other performers, click here.

THe rehearsals were all afternoon - Go here to see the live Facebook video I did during rehearsals.

I chose a few of my favourite songs, and despite my career on TV, was duly terrified, dry mouthed and petrified I'd forget my words. But it all went well. Here's the first song, with Hugh on piano - Adele's Someone Like You

It's been a karaoke fave for ages!

Then I had the opportunity to sing along with the Eric Gilchrist Quintet, his amazing jazz band - they did their own performances too and were excellent, and so full of joie de vivre! My two songs were That Ole Devil Love, and then one of my top tunes, (now I've learnt it!!) - What a Difference a Day Makes. Both are to be heard on this little video which my mum did, bless her - not quite got the hang of the camerawork, so close your eyes if you don't want to feel sea sick! lol.

click here for Ole Devil love and What a Difference a day Makes

Well it all went very well! I just love singing in the old fashioned war time style, and it was an amazing feeling and a highlight of my year to sing with a live band like Eric's. .The energy is superb and really does half the job for me to have them there. One of them took my card so you never know what might be next. I'd be happy to do a few numbers if they do another charity concert maybe. And Ali Keenan, my colleague on QVc, has said we should record an album for charity in her hubby colin's studio, so watch this space!

We also did a finale where everyone joined in, 'As Long as I have Music', which will be on video at some point and I will add it here too! Not seen it myself yet but I thoroughly enjoyed it, made me want to do more choral stuff.

Lovely little Lara and Issy came too and it was lovely to have mum and her partner David there to watch. Mum was super proud and I was delighted they came, along with around 200 others too. Several thousand pounds was raised for the three local charities the church and the Bown family firm support.

I was very happy to be asked to join in and maybe next year I'll do it again!

Hope you enjoy the videos

Published in Debbie's News

I’m going to kick off this week with a reminder about why it’s vital to break free from the nasty insidious grip of sugar addiction, in order to be able to lose weight long term and Freedom Eat properly. One lady on TTFLS group (see bottom) this week talked about how it’s time of the month and having changed her taste buds, she didn’t even have her usual cravings for sweet stuff at this point. She was amazed. I’m not.

Do read some of the articles and watch some of the videos on my

‘aids to cutting back sugar’ blog – click here.

Stand by to be amazed, believe me, if you haven’t done this already.

I see many people talking about needing to lose weight, saying they have plateaued or reporting good losses and full of enthusiasm one week, whilst being adamant they still need to eat sugary stuff as ‘treat’s. Then all of a sudden they disappear for ages and then come back saying they’ve had a major setback, binged or gone off on a sugar rampage and undone all the good work, really down on themselves.  MOST OF THE TIME those ladies later admit their blip had begun with some sweet ‘treat’ which turned into lots of them, then they ended up beating themselves up, having one long last supper (that ‘start again tomorrow, eat the cupboards bare now’ rubbish we’ve all done at one point or another!) and feeling really really bad and down on themselves.

It’s NOT necessary to have sweet treats (cakes, ice creams, sweets.) It’s truly not. You can get sweetness from some natural foods like a little fruit (whole fruit, a little) and certain non-fructose based home cooked recipes. Or Marlene’s sweet vegetable tea – that’s one of the most amazing alternatives whilst you’re trying to cut down. A squeeze of lemon juice in hottish water is also incredible at helping to combat a sweet tooth and people really report great results in changing what their bodies are actually asking for once they’ve been drinking that each day instead of sugary coffee or tea or fizzy drinks or (just as bad if not worse sometimes) fruit juice drinks. Once you're off the white stuff, it's ok to have sugary stuff every so often, of course, that's what the Freedom Eating 'when' diet is all about. BUT your body often WON'T now feel like it...

So do what you can if you’re seriously trying to lose weight and get some sanity back into mealtimes and snacktimes. Will power will help of course, but the information you get from my blog above can make the difference between it being a permahabit and a quick fix.

Great Results.

Here are some more fab comments that have gone up on the groups I run this week – what’s yours? Do tell us on one of them! (links are below)

And this from QVC UK item 704285 - “Firstly I want to say this is NOT a diet! This is a book which will stop you dieting forever, make you rethink your relationship with food and let you eat whatever you want BUT in doing so you will lose weight and change your life.

Since buying the book I have quit sugar, learned to listen to my body about when to eat and what, and the result is since January I have lost inches all over, gone down two dress sizes and lost over two stone. All this and I still eat bacon sarnies and have chips, I eat out and I enjoy my food even more than I ever have before! This I coming from a real foodie too! My taste buds have altered, I not only look better but feel so much better too.

Don't just flip through, read bits that appeal at first and think them through, so many people have scoffed and said it is common sense, well if it is why are so many of us overweight and prisoners to food! Try it you have 30 days!!!”

"I have struggled with my weight for years and now with a combination of ttfls, SW and BB I am getting it under control without feeling under any pressure at all. As a footnote I read the Paul McKenna stuff years ago and it did nothing for me, but ttfls is getting into my brain and I am actually asking myself 'what do I want to eat'? Instead of mindlessly shovelling stuff down." Facebook TTFLs

If you have been wearing gel nails or any form of enhancement, nail envy and Avoplex is the best treatment. If you have lost layers of natural nail and the nails are peeling our main aim is to grow the weakened edge out first. Don't think you are growing for length at first, but keep using the nail envy every other day, removing it at the end of the week, file any growth, reapply nail envy and continue till all the peeling has grown out, then you can go for length. Continue with the routine, if you stop your nails will go back to how they were before you started. Apply Avoplex oil as often as you can, over the envy. The key is moisture

I have used lots of OPI products for over 8 yrs now. Wouldn't be without nail envy & avoplex oil.

My nails grow like wild fire, have to cut them down every week to keep them at a manageable length.

Love Big Apple Red for my toe nails. OPI nail lacquers stay on my toes unchipped for about 6 weeks, they grow off!

Julie, are there any red lacquers on the show?

Lynn Parry Thanks Julie wasn't rinsing off will start doing that I was leaving it on overnight. How long does it take for peeling nails to grow out?

3 hrs · Like · 2

Julie Barham Joanne, infinite shine is a gel lacquer system. It is a separate base, colour and top coat which wears like a gel and last up to 10 days. It is remover with our none acetone polish remover. I find this last longer on my nails, especially after looking after my horses

3 hrs · Like · 2

Julie Barham

I would just like to confirm the best way to improve your nails. Apply nail envy to your bare nail, apply 2 coats, then every other reapply, remove this at the end of the week and start again. You can use it as a base coat and top coat and keep reapplying over the colour, and remove as usual at the end of the week. Nail envy can help all nail problems, flakey, peeling, soft, brittle and bitten. You're Avoplex should be applied through out the day, as often as you can

3 hrs · Unlike · 5

Joanne Mitchell Oh! Can the infinite shine primer and gloss be be used with opi regular nail polish colours as I have loads and can't afford to replace

3 hrs · Like

Sue Stewart Great advice Julie. Thank you. Just need for it to arrive from QVC now.

3 hrs · Like

Julie Barham Lynn it depends on how far your nails have peeled back, on average from the cuticle to the free edge is 6 months, so if the nails are just peeling on the tip give it a few months , keep nail envying and Avoplex, and each week use OPIs crystal file to take those peeling edges away.

I met Bruce years back when QVC was still at Batersea Debs! I couldn't believe this man who looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger was in his 60's! Bruce also has the most amazing charisma and aura about him. I had just had my son and felt wobbly and flabby and still looked pregnant (!). Bruce told me how the clever movements of the Bodyblade work ALL your muscles in just a few minutes a day which really appealed to me as I am a single parent. Because it's so easy to use (and store!) I just fell in love with it (and a little bit with Bruce too!). Xx

I know how you feel Lorna, Bruce is lovely isn't he. I've come over to the other side to talk about the fountain if you don't mind. I got the last white one on Saturday night and I'm thrilled to bits. Can't wait for it to arrive. Then I started noticing that some of the previous ones that had been sold had problems with the surface peeling or with the batteries. Did I read that these problems have been solved now with this latest one? xx

Webchat - Bruce from Bodyblade - Monday 25th May 2015

Hello Bodyblade Ohana! Today is a special holiday in the U.S. where we honor all men and women who gave their life protecting our freedom. Memorial day weekend is a time to reflect and celebrate with friends and family. I am excited to be with you tonight at 8pm. I thought we'd talk about the value of training with a partner! Research shows that results are better when you have someone else to share results, challenge each other set goals.

Wendy Lawrence Hi Bruce hope you're ok, asking this for Poppy Warden 'Is it better to do as much as possible in one go (until muscles are aching) or is it better to split it up into smaller amounts? also please do you have any tips for getting a good wobble on Tricep push' Thank you very much x

Oh dear Bruce I hope it's just not you and me. It's a Bank Holiday in England today as well. I'm retired and use my BB on my own. I don't know of anyone else who has one. We do challenge each other on the fb page for some activity at certain times of the day. We then report back to say how we got on. It's not like being in the same room but it definitely helps. I went on a 9 mile walk yesterday cross country and lots of the girls willed me on. Some did a Leslie Sansone walk as I was walking and I knew they were with me.

Hi Bruce happy holidays. Yes I agree it is better to exercise with others. I love joining in with you and Debbie as I feel I am not alone. Also find the moves are easier to do as I feel more determined to keep up with everyone. The Hampton Court exercise is also good as we are able to see other members namely Anne. With the help of you, Debbie and support from other members I have managed to lose a stone in weight and inches from my waist and hips. Just want thighs to reduce.

Jill Dowding-Walker I have been a bit of a shirker with my BB recently! I had a fall and hurt my back a month ago, then was just getting over that when I fell flat on my face a few days ago! Hi Wendy. Answering Poppy's question is two fold. You can always split exercise into smaller or more relaxed sessions so you go easy on the muscles and training but you also can train harder in each session to become stronger, faster, increase endurance and essentially progress. When exercising with Bodyblade or any device, there comes a time when you can train harder for growth. You have to challenge the body to work harder, longer and more intensely to make progress. Pushing yourself in the right way, is a good thing when training. Imagine an athlete training for the Olympics. If they just do a little each day or when they feel the burn or challenge in their body, they stop to rest.....progress will be average. Perhaps, a consistent training regimen, 3 to 4 times a week and remember "Flex Intensity" to make progress. We are all with you!!

Jo Hunt Karen recommended the body blade to me. I've searched online reading reviews and even joined this group before buying one! It should arrive any day now so where do I start?! Is it the dvd that comes with it or are there better options?

I go to to the gym 3 times a week and work with a trainer so my fitness isn't terrible but I need extra help!

4 hrs · Like · 2

Anne Keating Bruce we had a discussion the other day and decided to ask your advice. Can you advise the best exercises to use a. To put on inches in the chest area and not to lose them and, b. To lose inches in the same area and not to put them on. It's not a flippant question Bruce some of us genuinely don't want to put on whilst others don't want to lose inches. Thanks. xx

Bruce Hymanson Hi Jill, sorry to hear you have fallen a couple of times. Perhaps share Bodyblade with your Doctor to see what they say. Bodyblade can help exercise those deep spinal muscles to bring blood and help move waste products away from the injuried area. Make sure they approve but, it might help you recover with "gentle" training for rehab rather than heavier training for regular training.

Bruce Hymanson Nice idea to get the hubby's involved as a training partner. Maybe a 30 or 60 second challenge to begin with. Remember, it's not the first 30 seconds that gets you, it's the last 10 seconds for some. Once you get them hooked, you may have a struggle on your hands getting the blade back from them.

Anne Ward Hi Bruce not used BB for a few weeks as I had sore arms and wrists with painting the fence healing fine then done some gardening sore again is there any exercise I can do to strengthen my wrists x

3 hrs · Like · 2

Bruce Hymanson

Hi Anne, hope all is well with you! Great question about taking off and or maintaining size in the chest. This is a difficult combo. For some, losing weight will reduce the size of their breast as breast tissue is normally composed of fat tissue as well. Each individual is different. For some, losing weight may mean seeing their breast size go down. For others, they may lose inches elsewhere in the body and not in the breast area at all. Our individual genetic make up is different and will vary from person to person. That is separate from toning and strengthening the body. We can not spot reduce when it comes to weight loss. So, we can't exercise to lose weight around just our stomach, chest or hips for example. We can only globally lose inches the way our individual body is programmed. When it comes to changing the shape of your arms or toning the chest, hips, legs, we can do specific exercises to address those areas of the body. If you want to increase the toned look of the chest, shoulders and arms, we can focus on those exercises that will help in those areas. Remember, Bodyblade is not recommended to be used like weight training to build large massive muscles but rather defined, toned, sculpted and strong muscle.

Sometimes, there is something called "Thoracic Outlet Syndrome" which produces symptoms like Carpel Tunnel and Bodyblade will also help with that. If you want to know more about TOS, you can google it and read up on the cause, location in the neck, shoulders and arm etc. You will find this interesting.

Bruce Hymanson Hi Anne, difficult to specifically say what exercises to do that will strengthen the wrist (other than Bodyblade). For Bodyblade, any exercise you do will always strengthen your wrist (which is really strengthening your forearms both inside and outside). The key in to increase muscle endurance and grip strength which will naturally occur with Bodyblade training. Make sure you are clear to train.

Hi Debbie, great question about how to partner up on our group. Perhaps get a few people to do more then just a virtual exercise at a particular time. Add a new dimension. For example, how about doing the super 6 and recording your time in each exercise. Keep a log, share it with the group and keep track as a group. So, you train virtually but with specific goals that everyone keeps track of for progress. Have a start date and meet (virtually) for six weeks recording progress. I'm open to additional ideas too.
