David Lloyd, creative writing MA student - Feb 2017
"My second visit more than lived up to expectations. It's under new management but all the best things about Retreats for You are in place. The lovely Debs and Wendy are the hosts producing great food and warm hospitality. Everything is taken care of and you can just relax into your writing or whatever has drawn you there.it's a peaceful idyll in a beautiful Devon village which still sustains a great pub and village shop. The countryside beckons for walks that release the creative juices. Back at Retreats for You there have been some positive refinements - a dining room that now doubles as a sometime tea room but which retains a wonderful atmosphere for shared dinners and conversation in the evening.
The sitting room has new sofas which are a great place to read or write in front of a log burner with a glass of something on tap pre and after dinner. The upstairs bathroom has had a welcome makeover and the studio in the garden makes a great break out space for tutored retreats or workshops.
I came there to write poems and wrote around 10 with ideas for a further three towards a portfolio for my MA Creative Writing course at Exeter Univ. This is a great place for MA course leaders to run events for their students or if you are flying solo why not finish the first draft of your play or story ?
I end by quoting the poet George Herbert "Love bade me welcome" and this is how I feel about Retreats for You."
Do come stay and let us know what you think!
