#AustrianRoadTrip! And sneaky peeks…

In two days! Yes, seriously, we did over 2200 km in two days including the English bit. Regulars to my newsletter will remember from last week when I told you why I went – poor Howard‘s motorbike had the key broken in the lock and he had to leave it there and come home, after just three days on his European tour. Anyway… I was very excited to do a road trip with him and it was good fun. It was a proper courier type trip. We stayed in an Airbnb at Folkstone during the night before so we could get up at stupid o’clock, but had an hour delay at the shuttle. (Had a two hour delay on the way back sadly as well but that’s another story.) It was my first experience of Eurotunnel in a car and without the delays it’s highly recommended!

We then drove – well, Howard did and I kept him company by choosing the music we could both sing to and and having a lovely conversations, for around 12 hours, stopping in the nearly 40° heat both there and back, for the odd ice lolly, loo break, bite to eat et cetera.

But when we got to the edge of the Alps some beautiful scenery awaited me!

Vlog: Kind of! Here’s my day one video with a summary of everything we did. See it here.

Check out the newsletter for what happened when we got to the other end! The trailer lasted well, H is a brilliant advanced planner, checks everything! And the journey back was even better as we started early, really early. Lovely comfortable room overnight in the same hotel he had called me from, with practically the same view (top pic). Check out the newsletter for a little video where you can hear the beautiful river noises which kept us comforted all night before we began the journey home, especially as the sun came up over the mountains…

We are definitely going to go back one day, as tourists and take some more time. But I loved spending time with my man and it was a very easy journey. So that was my experience of the two hottest days of the year! Hope yours was okay

SNIPPETS

Heatwave in Europe as well as at home

It was worst as we drove through Germany on both Wednesday and Thursday, hit 41.5 degrees outside on the way back. Never been in that kind of heat before. Days like this I just thank God for Aircon! And our fans – my little handheld one is absolutely genius! So is the big Shark, which is silent and wonderfully powerful! I recommend a mister spray or Margaret Dabbs leg gel whilst laying in the breeze! Hope you’ve got what you need and are staying cool enough.

Bum bum

Haha!! This was an ice cream I had in the heat of the midcontinent, halfway on the journey, made me laugh!

Father’s Day Fun with Lara!

My lovely niece was back from Sweden for two weeks on an internship in London staying with Brad. And she came down to join us for a Father’s Day Sunday lunch at Mum‘s club. I treated Mum‘s partner David and my lovely Howard! It was so nice to see her, she’s all grown up! Another big event next Saturday, hopefully with her and more of the family!

Exclusive – on this week’s newsletter (sign up to get yours in the inbox every weekend), the exclusive content is a video from the balcony in Austria!

Watch Will Gowing with a very special talent! See it here.

Plus in keeping with the heatwave news, we missed the amazing lightening didn’t we? If you did, just watch this, over London. Never seen anything like it!! See it here.

Funny – Hilarious video, really made me laugh! Although we were getting a bit stir crazy at one point and giggling at anything, this one had me laughing out loud! See it here.

Book of the Week – Got only a little time to listen to my audiobook on the journey, so continued with Ben Schroeder books by Peter Murphy. I’m up to book 7, ‘Verbal’, which features QC Ben many years later and starts in a very different way, dealing with a couple of his colleagues being set up by a drugs ring, but kind of picks up from the last book and it’s unfinished business, which is very pleasing.

Plus – Merryn Allingham, my prolific fighter friend from way back when, has done it again, with the release of yet another Laura Steel mystery, Murder at the Country Fair. In Book 14, Flora and Jack helped to solve another mystery murder – this time at their local autumn fete. It’s Sussex, 1960, and a cheesemaker has a tragic accident… Or does he?

By the way you can already pre-order the next one, Murder in the Desert, Book 15, out in January!

My 3 writing friends from Italy, whom I have known since 2009, had a zoom meeting with me the other day and it was very fulfilling, particularly hearing about the many books by Merryn. Although it’s worth looking at the others too – a few by Carolyn Mahony (detective mysteries) and Litty Williams (young adult dystopian). I love the worlds these ladies create, and I’m very impressed with them all. Then as soon as I get my mojo back to finish my own book, who knows I might be up there with them!

The Magic by Rhonda Byrne

Lollipop said how much she liked the book and was reading it, so I decided to get it on audiobook! It follows on from The Secret; all about gratitude, which I’m going to practice every night, see if it works! I will be practising, amongst other things, that I’ve already sold Devon and have lots more spare time to go and have more fun. I must say with one of Howard‘s friends down in Sussex being transferred to a hospice as she is seriously ill, it reminds you how much you need to make the most of your time – at any time of life but especially when I’m three years from getting my state pension, technically speaking! (At heart I’m still 35!)
